PROJECT NAME
Ogilvy ULAB
ROLE
Creative Lead
Modular/Social
Ogilvy was a near ten-year part of my career, but the some of the best (and toughest) of those came from its smallest unit: ULAB. Built to be agile from within a behemoth legacy account (that rhymes with Moonyweaver), we were the sole source of digital-first, scalable-by-design work from inside an opco ten times our size.
Budgets and timelines were tight. Adaptation was often the name of the game, at least in the founding days. But we always made it work, and fiercely guarded creative quality in the face of automation and scale. You'll find a few choice examples from across those years on this site, but as always, a sizzle paints the picture well enough.
I came on board in 2020 as the sole creative, just as 'modular' was introduced by the client; and nobody knew what it meant or how to do it. Less than a year later we'd built some of the strongest and most trusted client relationships I encountered across that whole decade. Agile processes that flew. And even healthier margins.
But above all else, it was the greatest reminder of the power of small, passionate teams. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
